    Biography

    Valerie McBride, RN, BSN, is a Kidney Transplant Coordinator with UCSF Transplant Services. She specializes in live kidney donation and manages the Paired Exchange Program for the Kidney Transplant team. Her emphasis is pre-transplant recipient evaluation, patient education and coordination of Recipient/ Donor pairs through the local and national exchange programs.

    Valerie began her nursing career with the bedside care of critically ill newborns before transitioning to care for adult populations at the Surgical ICU of the University of Utah Hospital. There she worked with trauma, oncology and cardiac surgical patients as well as all abdominal and thoracic organ recipients. She began as a Kidney and Pancreas Transplant Coordinator in 2011, where she operated as the lead paired exchange coordinator in addition to pre/ post recipient and donor evaluations. In 2014 she returned to her native California and joined the UCSF team as the Living Donor Program’s Paired Exchange Coordinator.

    Valerie graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from the University of Utah. She has served in numerous leadership roles including system wide staff and patient education. She is involved with organizations in the field of kidney transplant, currently serving on the Operations Committee for the National Kidney Registry (NKR) and is on the board as treasurer for the Northern California Chapter of the International Transplant Nurses Society (ITNS). Her interests include furthering access to kidney transplantation through direct donation as well as exchange and the patients experience throughout the kidney transplant process.
