    Research Narrative

Norah has an extensive background in clinical and translational research. As an undergraduate at Harvard University, she pursued cancer chemotherapeutics research under the direction of Dr. Stuart L. Schreiber at The Broad Institute and the Department of Chemistry and Chemical Biology at Harvard University. In Dr. Schreiber's laboratory, Norah worked on developing small molecule inhibitors of mutant isocitrate dehydrogenase 1. Following graduation, she spent a year working as a Junior Specialist in Dr. Frank McCormick's laboratory at UCSF, designing in silico screens for identifying scaffolds against mitogen-activated protein kinase 6, for application in decreasing metastatic behavior of non-small cell lung cancer.

As a first year medical student, Norah conducted pediatric anesthesia research in Dr. Charles E. Berde's laboratory at Boston Children's Hospital. There, she studied clinical signs and electroencephalographic patterns of emergence from sevoflurane anesthesia in children. For this study, Norah was awarded the UCSF Dean's Prize in Clinical and Translational Research.

In addition to her basic and translational research, Norah conducts clinical outcomes research in the Department of Surgery at UCSF under the mentorship of Dr. Elaine Tseng and Dr. Lan Vu. In Dr. Tseng's laboratory, Norah has worked on analyzing the postoperative outcomes of minimally invasive techniques for aortic valve replacement at the SFVA. In Dr. Vu's laboratory, Norah has studied the use of thoracic ultrasound in evaluating diaphragmatic function after surgical repair of congenital diaphragmatic hernia, and radiographic features of congenital cystic lung lesions associated with increased rates of preoperative pulmonary infection.
