Biography
Dr. Lan Vu is a pediatric surgeon at UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital. Her research interests include outcomes for children with surgically correctable birth defects. Her interest in global health includes establishing sustainable collaborations with countries in Southeast Asia.
Born in Vietnam, Vu immigrated to the United States in 1981. She earned her medical degree from UCSF. Her time as a medical student included a year as a research assistant to Dr. Hanmin Lee in the UCSF Division of Pediatric Surgery. During this time, she also worked as a domestic violence counselor in the Asian Women's Shelter in San Francisco.
Vu finished her general surgery residency at UCSF. During her residency, she completed a two-year pediatric surgery research fellowship and earned a master's degree in clinical research. She completed her pediatric surgery training at Texas Children's Hospital in Houston.
