Biography
Dr. Perito treats all types of pediatric liver, pancreatic, and gastrointestinal diseases, in all ages from newborns through young adults. Her clinical care and research focus on optimizing long-term outcomes for children with liver and pancreatic diseases.
She is Medical Director of UCSF's Pediatric Liver Center and Associate Medical Director of UCSF's multi-disciplinary Pediatric Liver Transplant team with expertise in the care of children with pediatric liver disease before and in the long-term after transplant. Dr. Perito leads epidemiologic research focused on improving access to transplant, organ allocation, and waitlist outcomes for children awaiting liver transplant. She is Co-Chair the Starzl Network for Excellence in Pediatric Transplantation and helps lead their efforts to improve the efficacy and reduce the burden of immunosuppression for children after liver transplant. She also advocates for children nationally as Chair of UNOS' Pediatric Transplantation Committee (2022-2024), Chair of the Society for Pediatric Liver Transplant's Advocacy Committee (2020-2023), and a member of AASLD's Pediatric Special Interest Group.
She is also co-director of UCSF's Pediatric Pancreas Program. She lead's UCSF's work in NIH-sponsored multi-center trials including the INSPPIRE study on acute recurrent and chronic pancreatitis in children and adolescents. Her work in chronic pancreatitis includes research on chronic pain management, opioid use, and outcomes after TPIAT.
Before coming to UCSF, Dr. Perito did her pediatrics training and medical school at Columbia University in New York City.

Mentoring and Training Narrative
I am excited to work with trainees who are interested in clinical and/or epidemiologic research, particularly in chronic pediatric liver and pancreatic disease. I am experienced with statistical analysis of the United Network for Organ Sharing (UNOS) database, as well as study design, implementation, and analysis of my own prospective cohort. We can be most productive if you have familiarity with basic statistics (in Excel, Stata or another program) or a background in computer programming--or if you are enrolled in a UCSF clinical research program (e.g., TICR, ACTR)--but this is not required.
