Legendary Surgeon Maurice Galante Dies

Maurice Galante, M.D., a legendary master surgeon at UCSF and renaissance man, died on February 5, 2013. His career is memorialized by the Maurice Galante Lecture Program and Maurice Galante Distinguished Professorship.

UCSF Medical Center at Parnassus is located at 505 Parnassus Ave., near Golden Gate Park. The hospital and clinics cover almost six blocks, an expanse it shares with UCSF's health sciences schools. Today, the 15-story, 600-bed main hospital is composed of two adjoining buildings as well as our UCSF Children's Hospital.

The 180-bed UCSF Children's Hospital is a "hospital within a hospital," cradled within the larger facility on the sixth, seventh and 15th floors. It includes the Center for Mothers and Newborns, a pediatric intensive care unit, a neonatal intensive care nursery linked to a Birth Center on the 15th floor, and a pediatric surgical suite.
