Maurice Galante, M.D., a legendary master surgeon at UCSF and renaissance man, died on February 5, 2013. His career is memorialized by the Maurice Galante Lecture Program and Maurice Galante Distinguished Professorship.
James R. Macho, M.D., F.A.C.S. is a laparoscopic, breast, general surgeon, and specialist in surgical critical care. He is an Emeritus Professor of Surgery at UCSF and Director of Critical Care Medicine at Saint Francis Memorial Hospital. Dr. Macho received his MD from Harvard Medical School, thereafter completing the general surgery residency program at UCSF and a fellowship there in Critical Care Medicine.
Dr. Macho is a member of numerous professional organizations, having held a leadership position in many including President, Northern California Chapter, Am. Coll. of Surgeons, Governor, American College of Surgeons, Vice-President, San Francisco Surgical Society, Executive Board, California Academy of Medicine,President, San Francisco Surgical Society, Executive Board, California Academy of Medicine and, most recently, President of the prestigious Howard C. Naffziger Surgical Society from 2011-12.
Dr. Macho is an author of numerous peer-reviewed publications and several book chapters on surgery.
